Why should the US worry about the Golan Heights?

First, we need to understand why Israel sits on the Golan Heights, seized from Syria in the 6 Days War in 1967. The narrative accepted in the US is that the war was supposedly started by the Arabs with genocide in mind and the Israelis saved each other from another Holocaust.
Here is part of an article from The Intercept that rebuts that myth:
“FIFTY YEARS AGO, between June 5 and June 10, 1967, Israel invaded and occupied East Jerusalem, the West Bank, the Gaza Strip, and the Golan Heights. The Six-Day War, as it would later be dubbed, saw the Jewish David inflict a humiliating defeat on the Arab Goliath, personified perhaps by Gamal Abdel Nasser’s Egypt.
“The existence of the Israeli state hung by a thread,” the country’s prime minister, Levi Eshkol, claimed two days after the war was over, “but the hopes of the Arab leaders to annihilate Israel were dashed.” Genocide, went the argument, had been prevented; another Holocaust of the Jews averted.
There is, however, a problem with this argument: It is complete fiction, a self-serving fantasy constructed after the event to justify a war of aggression and conquest. Don’t take my word for it: “The thesis according to which the danger of genocide hung over us in June 1967, and according to which Israel was fighting for her very physical survival, was nothing but a bluff which was born and bred after the war,” declared Gen. Matituahu Peled, chief of logistical command during the war and one of 12 members of Israel’s General Staff, in March 1972.”
Thus, Israel won the land by deceit, not heroism, and it is therefore still recognized internationally as belonging to Syria. Trump and Netanyahu are colluding to get the latter re-elected. It will be a tough slog because Netanyahu is expected to be indicted for corruption. So Trump wants to help because his constituents are “Christian” Zionists who foolishly believe every step the corrupt Israeli president takes is guided by the Almighty. It is more like one dirty hand washing the other.
I just read a brief statement on this by Russian officials in Moscow. Here is my translation. Since I agree with this statement,I would like to share it:
In Russia, response to Trump's plans to recognize the Golan as part of Israel
MOSCOW, March 21, 2019 - RIA Novosti. Russia will never recognize the Golan Heights as Israeli, said Oleg Morozov, a member of the international committee of the Federation Council, to RIA Novosti.
"Russia will never accept such recognition," the senator stressed.
He also noted that "Trump is severely provoking the world community and the Arab world."
Attempt to split the Arab world
Morozov believes that Trump has three goals.
"The first one is to bind Israel closer to itself, which should see in the US not just the main, but, in fact, the only ally in this matter," said the senator.
"The second goal is to split the Arab world. Some will bend and keep silent. It will tie them to the US and weaken Arab unity in this matter," he added. [Since this was written, the Arab League met and decided that the Golan Heights still belongs to Syria. The Russians are uniting the Arab world--Vince]
“The third is a blow to Syria and its partnership with Russia,” the politician concluded.
"They are adding fuel to the fire"
The first deputy head of the international committee of the Federal Security Council, Vladimir Dzhabarov, told RIA Novosti that the United States is not happy with the beginning of a peace settlement in Syria, so it is taking steps to heighten tensions in the region.
"Just as the situation in the Middle East has just begun to calm down, and the process of peaceful settlement in Syria is beginning, the US is immediately trying to pour oil on the fire," he noted.
He stressed that this decision of the Americans is similar to the previous one, ie, to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
"Americans do not need peace in this region, they need war and chaos. They are interested in selling their weapons," said Dzhabarov.
He expressed regret that Trump’s so unreasoned statement could upset the delicate balance in the Arab world, provocations could begin against Israel, and clashes could begin.
The senator recalled that in the so-called disputed territories there are now peacekeeping units.
Meantime, the Arab League and the EU have both weighed in. They agree that the Golan Heights is not Israeli. Indeed it would have been hard to vote against Bashar al-Assad, because he has been reinstated as a member of the League, from which he had been banned throughout the war years. The decisions of these two bodies will make it difficult for Netanyahu and Trump, whose only achievement could be a prolongation of the war – a war instigated and fuelled by the US, as usual.
For some time, some of the Arab countries (and also Turkey) were supporting the overthrow of Assad. The Saudis had a motive in that Saudi-born Lebanese prime minister Rafic Hariri had been assassinated in 2005 and the Lebanese generally attributed his murder to Assad, although the evidence was not conclusive. That was the year that a group of disgruntled Syrians formed the National Salvation Front in Belgium and declared themselves the Syrian “government” in exile. Like the Juan Guaidó in Venezuela, this government was immediately recognized by the US.
There is no doubt in my mind that the Saudis cooked up and financed the whole plot to avenge themselves of Rafic Hariri, with whom the Saudis had ties and who was one of their own.
US wars and regime changes in the Muslim world have always been plotted for the benefit of the Saudis under the petrodollar agreement (signed between Richard Nixon and King Faisal in 1973 making the US military a mercenary force no longer used for its constitutional purpose of defending the American people). Thousands of US service personnel went to Iraq, Syria, Libya, Kosovo, Lebanon and elsewhere to serve the intolerant and violent religion of Wahhabism and thought they were defending their country. If Trump has his way, the Golan Heights will become the focal point of still another conflict, this time to help Israel steal yet another piece of land.
